The bird feeding station attracts a range of species that includes blue tits, great tits, coal tits, chaffinches, robins, great spotted woodpeckers, ring necked parakeets, blackbirds, magpies, stock doves and wood pigeons. The feeders offer a variety of food to appeal to different diets. there is always a wild bird seed mix, but this is often supplemented with mealworms, peanuts, niger seeds and suet based treats.
The feeding station and hide is set away from the public areas but you can view it from the specially created viewing bay along the road to the farm. Here, you can watch the birds safely and without disturbing them.
The feeding station is a joint initiative spearhearded by Sean McCormack, founder of Ealing Wildlife Group.
We had fantastic volunteer help building the screen hide and bird feeding station. Since day one the birds have been very appreciative. It gives people the chance to get close views, and the kids from the Forest School have especially enjoyed these encounters. We also use a trail camera to share their antics online.
